premise
The island of Sanctuary has existed for a long time, under many other names. Currently, it exists as an island, roughly bigger than Maine on the East Coast of the United States. It is unable to be found on any map, and as far as anyone else is concerned, Sanctuary doesn't exist.

As it's name suggests, Sanctuary is a beautiful, bountiful place untouched by common diseases beyond a cold or a flu, with almost anything imaginable for anyone willing to work the land provided. It hosts no more than about 200 people at any given time, and it is welcoming of many, due to the fact that almost everyone has stumbled upon this island throughout time. Most think of it as just a place to set down their weariness, to shed old lives and begin new ones. There are no outward prejudices regarding race, nation, color, creed or sexuality. Two women may have a family together as sure as a man and a woman, and though there is a singular Christian church, other faiths have been respected.

The town has a high council that gathers to decide on certain basic government functions from dividing up land to settling some of the few disputes. They are usually elected every few years whenever a vacancy is opened up, usually via death. The high council is highly trusted, though there are some things they decide on in secret. There has been no need, however, for the people to question them given the relatively quiet, peaceful life on the island bear one event a year ago.

However, in the past few weeks, a few things have been a little odd. The residents have noted that a few crops have failed, and that some of the livestock has either not had successful births or have mysteriously died of diseases. People are beginning to worry about their home.

What very little people know is that the island's prosperity is not solely fueled by the will in each person's heart to be good and do good. It is fueled by something much darker, and more than one resident is becoming aware of that fact as not every resident on this slice of paradise is an ordinary human. Among them are people capable of magic, drawn to the island, aware that there is something here pulling them in, a signal that is getting stronger day by day as more and more things go wrong.

Despite their secrecy, as things go wrong, fingers are starting to be pointed as to why things are starting to fail, and everyone wants answers as things get worse and worse.

The high council knows what's going on — and it's up to the players to figure out how the the future of the island will turn out as more and more horrors are revealed.

offering is a horror game, with a length of six months of game time. The game has a set number of slots, and players will be told up front some of the roadmap of the game, and a wrap up will conclude the end of the game as well.

about the gameplay The game is not going to be run like most games on IJ. There is a set roadmap from the mods, and a time limit of minimum six months, and max six months. There is an ongoing plot that will involve everyone, will encourage interaction, and require participation. Thus, this is going to operate in three phases:

  1. The initial taste of Sanctuary as it was, until crops start failing and crops start dying. This will be two months, roughly, to get players acquainted.

  2. The Council begins to initiate a witch hunt in order to root out the "perpetrators" of the island beginning to spoil. This is a ruse in order for them to find out who is and isn't a magical being, and to target people in the village who they also don't agree with. This will also lead to people pushing back against the Council and suss out their real motives.

  3. The Discovery, where they realize that the Being is manipulating events. The remaining people will have to figure out what to do with the knowledge that their slice of Paradise is actually engineered falsely and must ask themselves what they will do to survive.

This will be facilitated by events, run by the mods and if they wish to host an event, players. Some events will be monthly writing challenges like bingoses or plot events. Participating can advance the plot and/or bring rewards like a pass for activity checks.

If the plot gets advanced too fast or too slowly, we'll host a check in and figure out where players are. This isn't meant to be a forever game, and it's just something for fun. It is, however, horror themed and people should keep it in mind as characters can die. Players will be talked to ahead of time and consulted about what they want to go and what directions they want to take.

the goal is to have fun, to have something with a decent amount of plot, community world building, and allowing the players to have an ending they choose or at least, to have a full journey with their characters!
